For those of you who may find the title a bit unintelligible, Toyota Kirloskar Motors discontinued the more powerful 2.8-litre diesel engine of the Innova Crysta, upon upgrading its best-selling MPV to meet the stringent BS-VI emission standards. So, for now, it continues with the BS-VI approved versions of the previously available 2.7-litre petrol and 2.4-litre diesel.
For those of you who may not know, the transition to meet the said norms has resulted in impacting a number of diesel engines, for several small cars have now made their shift to petrol-only power while the others have seen a significant rise in pricing. Take the Innova Crysta for instance, for now, the same variant in 2.4 AT costs more than the formerly available 2.8 AT.
Apart from that, Toyota has also introduced a limited-run Leadership Edition of the Innova Crysta, which is based entirely on the Touring Sport trim sold previously. To set it apart, however, it gets new fabric for the seats and a few feature additions to the equipment list.
So, what does the 2020 iteration of the popular Toyota Innova Crysta brings to the table? Let’s have a look down below.
Specifications
Since the update was only marginal, the Innova Crysta doesn’t have any new bits – apart from the new Leadership edition, that is – that distinguishes it from the older model. The specifications, too, remain the same as the car still measures 4,735mm in length, 1,830mm in width, and 1,795mm in height. Moving on, the base-spec variant of the MPV tips the scale at 1,805kg. The ground clearance is 176mm, while the fuel tank capacity is 65-litres. Further, the wheelbase is a respectable 2,750mm.
Under the hood, the Innova Crysta – as said earlier – now comes with two engine options. With the 2.8-litre engine junked, it’s the 2.7-litre petrol and 2.4-litre diesel that’s now upgraded to meet the BS-VI emission norms. The entry-level engine is the 2.7-litre unit, which is good for 164bhp and 245Nm of torque. It comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed AT transmission. The 2.4-litre diesel, on the other hand, produces 148bhp and 343Nm of torque. It, too, comes mated to a 5-speed manual as a standard fit, while a 6-speed AT is optional.
Mileage
With the higher-capacity engine dropped, the Toyota Innova Crysta’s fuel efficiency numbers are significantly better. As for the petrol, it delivers 11.25km/l in the manual guise and 10.83km/l in the automatic guise. The diesel-manual and diesel-automatic, on the other hand, deliver 15.1km/l and 14.29km/l, respectively.
Features
The Innova has always been a feature-rich car. However, there are a few necessary features that should have been a part of the equipment list. For instance, a panoramic sunroof would have been a nice addition. Moreover, while the 7.0-inch touchscreen boasts a number of features including Bluetooth connectivity and in-built navigation, it misses out on both Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
What you do get with the Crysta is projector LED headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, and electronically retractable and adjustable ORVMs on the outside. Interior-wise, you get climate control, cruise control, steering-mounted audio controls, coloured MID, push-button start, and much more.
Colours
The Innova Crysta, as of early-2020, comes in sevenshades, namely, Garnet Red, Avant Garde Bronze, White Pearl Crystal Shine, Grey, Silver, Super White, and Wildfire.
