Becoming a parent really changes your lifestyle. Maybe not right away, when you have your first child who is a baby and not actually eating solid food, or complaining when you take them out to a restaurant. In the beginning they sleep a lot, so they’re pretty easy to take to your old dinner hangouts. You just can’t really do a happy hour thing or go out all hours of the night.
So we started cooking more consistently at home as the time grew near that our first child would be hopefully eating the food that I cook. But there is a stage totally in between that where my Cuisinart food processor showed how handy it could be before I even got into my food preparation.
I decided to stock up on parts. I like to be proactive rather than reactive so I bought some extra parts including blades and bowls. I bought them from KitchenWorksInc where you can get actual Cuisinart-dfp-14 parts. It’s truly a wonderful thing.
I’d spend one morning a week (typically Sunday as that was my main food prep day of choice), making baby food from different fruit or vegetable purées to get started. These were easily freezable, so I’d have them at the ready on a daily basis. It was great.
Then I spent the afternoon prepping for my husband and myself for the week. We’d have some pretty simple lunches planned for the week like sandwiches and salads, but dinner required some more in-depth preparation. We prepped a lot more chopped veggies and herbs and things like that to get ready for our week of meals.
One of the nice things is that as our daughter got bigger we could give her softer parts of our dinners which would obviously be some sort of vegetable or fruit, whether it was potatoes, carrots or avocado. It made a great difference by doing all of this because feeding a whole family can get pretty darn expensive.
It’s so helpful in so many ways, especially because we have leftovers and we can freeze batches as well, so sometimes we have other options during other weeks which makes it nice, especially knowing that they’re still healthy options, not just some frozen pizza in the back of the freezer.
It’s really been quite a breeze since we pretty much caught on since day 1 of getting this stuff together. Once our daughter is really eating more of what we eat I imagine that the amount of preparation needed to be done will decrease a lot.
I recommend this all the time to different parents groups that I belong to and to any friends that I have who also have children. The Cuisinart food processor really is a godsend for anyone who is trying to save time and maximize their time with their family.
