Sisal carpets are relatively easy to maintain and clean. The hard fibers do not attract dirt and dust particles. Because the sisal fibers are tough, they are less vulnerable to abrasion. Let’s discuss the cleaning and maintenance of sisal carpets;
Maintenance
You can only maintain your sisal carets with regular vacuuming by using a b rush-suction. The beater-type cleaner could not be as effective in cleaning these sisal carpets. The dust which has accumulated between the sisal fibers can only be removed through a strong suction of the vacuum. Regular vacuuming will help improves your carpet life.
The wearing qualities of sisal can be enhanced when exposed to low humidity. You can apply clean water via a clean mop, spraying, or a damp brush. This minor dampening can help eliminate bubbling and looseness because a sisal carpet will tighten up as soon as they become dry. However, make sure to apply the moisture before vacuuming and cleaning, since dirt might stain if dissolved.
Spot cleaning
If you want to remove a spot completely from your sisal carpet, immediate attention would be required. Always try to remove the spill quickly by blotting up with clean, un-dyed paper cloths or towels. You can also scrap the spilled substance using a nail file or dull knife.
You can use the following two methods for different types of substances:
Method “A”
For coffee, eggs, butter, excreta, blood, ice cream, liquor, beer, urine, lipstick, fruit, cola, general dirt, chocolate, cream, greasy food, vomit, water-based paint, and juice.
- Mop up the spill quickly using a clean undyed cloth or un-dyed paper towel.
- Brush the affected area with a little amount of carpet shampoo and lukewarm water. Do not let the cleaner saturate. Clean using un-dyed cloth or paper. Repeat again.
- Then use the hair dryer to dry your carpet quickly.
Method “B”
For colored chalk, shoe polish, cosmetics, soot, oil-based paint, asphalt, and fresh oil.
- Scrape up the stain using a nail file or a dull knife as much as possible. For soot, you’ll have to vacuum.
- Apply dry cleaning fluid to the area using a clean, un-dyed white cloth. Blot up the stain. Make sure to move towards the center and avoid applying too much solvent otherwise the stain will spread. Repeat.
- Then use the hair dryer to dry your carpet quickly.
Water And Water-Based Spills
Blot up the stain quickly using paper towels then apply a thick layer of potato flour. Leave overnight, and then vacuum the next morning.
Greasy And Oily Spots
Such types of spots can be cleaned from sisal carpets with aerosol. Make sure to carefully read the instructions on the bottle before applying.
Beer and wine stains
If your sisal carpets have been stained with beer and wine, wood alcohol should be applied using a clean, undyed absorbent cloth. To remove oil-based paint, turpentine can be applied.
Overall Cleaning
Sisal carpets are hygroscopic. Although humidity is good for these carpets, it can cause undesirable dimensional changes too. Therefore any method that involves water saturation of the mattings is not allowed for example wet shampooing and steam cleaning.
So, we’ve come up to the conclusion that having sisal carpets in your home could be a better choice if you can do proper cleaning and maintenance!
